Uber’s ‘Anti-Racist Company’ Plan, Guidelines
Written by CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, the post includes a number of actionable changes the company plans to make, including releasing explicit community guidelines that prohibit racist behavior, doubling its Black leadership representation by 2025, and maintaining pay equity on the basis of race and gender.
“You’re probably thinking that Uber is not exactly the company you’d expect to be speaking up on this front. But after a lot of reflection and change over the last few years, we continue to challenge ourselves to be a different and better company,” said Khosrowshahi in the statement.
The company is also developing anti-racism training for both riders, drivers, and customer support agents.
“We will offer our customer support agents specialized training on bias and discrimination, and commit to improving our apps to make it simpler and easier for anyone to report discrimination issues to us,” said Khosrowshahi.
Uber previously committed $1 million in donations to organizations working to fight systemic racism, and is adding another $10 million that will go towards Black-owned small businesses. Additionally, the $0 delivery free for Black-owned restaurants will be extended through the end of 2020.
“But today is just one day: it is more important that we follow through, even after it feels like the outrage has cooled and business as usual has returned. I therefore ask you to hold us, and every organization pledging change, accountable for every step we take along the way,” said Khosrowshahi.
